Who's Awake Right Now? (A little love note to the tired mamas)
Who’s awake right now? At night I sometimes wonder Is every twinkling star outside another tired mother All in it together But doing it alone Soothing little cries In the darkness of our homes Is she stumbling down the hallway She’s lost count how many times Is she reaching across her bed With the heaviest of eyes Perhaps mothers are connected By the push and pull of string The midnight hour dancing And the tired songs we sing Sat in chairs, hunched over cots Or waiting at the door Feeding, shushing, loving While the world sleeps on some more I know it can be lonely I feel it sometimes too Just so you know, in case it helps I’m awake with you
